Getting Customised Ringtones / SMS Tones into your iPhone

Ringtones

   1. Select a song you want to make your ringtone.
   2. Download Audacity here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/latest/audacity-win/audacity-win-1.2.6.exe
   3. Use Audacity to edit your mp3 a length less than 30 seconds, once done … Export it as an mp3
   4. Drag to iTunes
   5. Right click on the track, to make it into an AAC file.
   6. If you are using windows, the AAC file can be found in My Documents -> My Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Music -> Check in the folders, the AAC file should be there
   7. Take the AAC file and drag it on to the desktop.
   8. Now, take the newly trimmed file, and rename the extension from .m4a to .m4r
   9. Drag M4R file back to iTunes, in your Library. The file will automatically file under Ringtones.
  10. Check the “Sync Ringtones” option under your iPhone options and Sync!
  11. Now, you can use it as a ringtone in your iPhone!

SMS Tones

1. Use WinSCP and connect toy your iPhone
2. Browse to /System/Library/Audio/UISounds on your iPhone
3. Find any wav or mp3 file and rename them to .caf (only tried a short wav file so far and it works)
4. rename it to sms-received1.caf and proceed to backup or rename the original sms-received1.caf on your iPhone. (I renamed it to sms-received123.caf).
5.) Copy over the custom sms tone named sms-received1.caf and select Tri-tone from your iPhone to hear it!
